Johannesburg is the largest as well as the most populous city of South Africa and it is also known to be the provincial capital of Gauteng (the wealthiest province of South Africa). This city is also the cultural, financial and economic hub of South Africa. The nature reserves as well as the parks, the restaurants that offers mind blowing dining as well as wining opportunities, the shopping malls, the natural beauty that adorns this city is responsible for drawing a large number of tourists in the recent past.
Johannesburg is well connected to the rest of the world and the reason that lies behind this is the fact that the OR Tambo International Airport, which was formerly known as the Johannesburg International Airport as well as other airports such as the Grand Central Airport, the Rand Airport and the Lanseria Airport is served by numerous domestic as well as international airlines as well as private aircrafts.
The metro railway system also plays a major role as far as transportation in Johannesburg is concerned as the metro railway system connects the central region of Johannesburg to Pretoria (a city situated in the Gauteng province of South Africa), Soweto (an urban area of this city) and the satellite towns that lie at the Witwaterstand (low range of hills).
As far as local transport is concerned, you could avail the taxis and at this city you could either avail the minibus taxis or the metered taxis. You would not find metered taxis moving in the city as these taxis would be at your service if only, they are called and these are very rare. However, the case is not the same with the minibus taxis as they are the best mode of transport to move in and around the city of Johannesburg and the service of these taxis are regular.
The Gautrain Rapid Rail is currently under construction and the completion of this construction would take place in the year 2010 and its construction includes the construction of the underground stations as well as ground stations above and its route would be from Johannesburg Park Station to Pretoria through Midrand, Sandton and Rosebank and also from the city's international airport to Sandton.
